Charles Cottam assists clients with business and commercial transactions, commercial real estate, business organizations and entity formation, commercial loan transactions, workouts and estate planning. He represents lenders and borrowers, as well as buyers and sellers, in commercial transactions including real estate and mergers and acquisitions. He also assists clients with estate planning, wills, trusts and probate matters.
Charles Cottam received his undergraduate degree in business management (cum laude) and his law degree from the University of Memphis and was a member of the University of Memphis law review.
Charles Cottam is a member of the American Bar Association (Section of Real Property, Trust and Estate Law, Section of Business Law, Commercial Finance Committee, and Uniform Commercial Code Committee) Tennessee Bar Association and Memphis Bar Association. Charles Cottam served as a contributing member to the Task Force on Forms under Revised Article 9 of the ABA Uniform Commercial Code Committee in connection with the 2002 publication of Forms Under Revised Article 9.
He was selected for inclusion of the 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 edition of Best Lawyers in America for his work in real estate law, trusts and estates, and banking and finance law. He was selected Memphis Lawyer of the Year in Banking and Finance Law by Best Lawyers in America for 2014.
